Professor Elaine (Lan Yin) Hsiao

Professor Elaine (Lan Yin) Hsiao is an Assistant Professor in the School of Peace and Conflict Studies at Kent State University, with a focus in environmental peacebuilding and international development. She is a critical socio-legal scholar and political ecologist whose work integrates peace and conflict studies with transboundary conservation, Indigenous and community governance, human rights, and Rights of Nature.

Professor Hsiao co-chairs the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic, and Social Policy Theme on Environment and Peace. She is a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Human-Wildlife Conflict Task Force and an Honorary Member of the ICCA Consortium. She led the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas Young Professionals Network from 2012 to 2016, and held a Fulbright grant in Uganda from 2010 to 2011.
